Why is art important to me?

Art is a necessity. It captures the sentiments of the times. I see artists as the visual historians and teachers of the age. With a piece of art, one can convey a feeling, capture a moment, and spark a revolution. I believe this to be the reason why art is important. Without art, this existence we call life, would be rather bleak indeed.

How does art make me feel?

Sometimes, an artist gets to witness a profound moment. That moment being, when you, as the artist, can see the figurative “light switch” flick on within the eyes of someone viewing your work. Chasing the sublime pleasure of that brief moment is what keeps an artist creating.

Art makes me feel empowered, yet burdened at the same time. The task of being a teacher, historian, or firestarter can be daunting. The feelings you get after successfully capturing a moment or conveying your idea via your artwork is the most rewarding feeling.

How long have I been an artist (education) and where do I draw inspirations?

I have formally studied visual arts from kindergarten through twelfth grade. My education in art and its methods, techniques, and impact have never stopped, and continue to this very day. I have always been drawn to some form of arts, whether it is the art of motion, the art of sound, or the art of sight.

I draw inspiration from any and everything around me; sights, sounds, smells, sensations, and even that which cannot be simply seen or sensed. I have been creatively creating things since I can remember.   Please allow me to explain what I mean.  Create is defined as bringing something into existence.  Creatively is defined as involving the process by which new ideas, stories, etc., are created.  Therefore, "creatively creating" is bringing something into existence in a fresh or new fashion.

Why do I make the type of art I create?

The more I travel around the world, the more I experience and come to acknowledge the negative light and stereotypes that non-black people overwhelmingly tend to view black people in. I aim to change this reality. We black people are a beautiful people. The world needs to be reminded and I aim to do just that.
